Comment: It was very nice this last year in 2009 to see Merry Christmas signs in Target. What a refreshing change. I will continue to shop at Target for this reason. When I said, "Merry Christmas" to the cashier, she replied the same back. Nice!

Comment: I like to walk into a store hearing the ringing of the salvation army's bell and the sound of Christmas music. I did not hear any of this in multiple target stores and I could not find any Christmas shirts during the Chirsmtas season.

Comment: Target's gotten a real black eye with the Christian community in recent years, so I almost fell over when I jogged by and saw the words "Merry Christmas" right on the door. And my wife discovered Christmas cards that had something to do with Christmas for the first tim ever. Great job, guys! That didn't hurt a bit, did it? Check your sales numbers, you'll find gifts there from me and my buddies.

Comment: Since Target was "Christmas Friendly" I purchased my gift cards / I-Tune Cards from Target rather than Best Buy. As a consumer, it is upmost important to me to have Christmas heard and seen in the store. The cashier was friendly and said "Merry Christmas."

Comment: We stopped trading at Target when we learned that they refused to let the Salvation Army "bell-ringers" stand in front of their store, claiming they would bother shoppers. We love the merry bells ringing and knowing that these people truly engage in the real meaning of Christmas--God's love and mercy. We consider it a joy and a service to us that they let us help with our donations. We are told that Target has become more "Christmas friendly," but there is still no bell-ringer in front of the one here.

Comment: I note many of the posts consider Target Christmas Friendly. It may be manager choice. The Target in St. John IN is totally devoid of anything to do with Christmas down to the "have a Nice Day" from the checker. I'll not be back.

Comment: Target decor in years passed has been less Christmas friendly; even employees would never say "Merry Christmas". Due to this my family and I have stopped shopping there as much as we used to. However, I had to buy a card, and Target was the only store in the area where I could do this, so, I went in. Things had changed. I actually found some Christmas books for children and the cashier wished me a Merry Christmas after I said it to her.

Comment: Lots of holiday trees and holiday ornaments for sale in the Christmas section. However, I could only find the word "Christmas" in four locations on tags or ornaments. What was offensive was that the store manager tried to convince me that because they were a retailer they could not acknowledge Christmas. When I pointed out that they had an aisle of Hanukkah items with mutliple "Happy Hanukkah" signs, she remembered that they did have a couple "Merry Christmas" signs over the check out lines. They were low key. I did not see them when I first checked out.

Comment: They were a wonderful help. I was trying to shop with my kids for my kids. When I found something I could tell an associate and they would take it to customer service for me. Comment: I hear and see a lot about Target being "unfriendly" to Christmas in email forwards and the like. I stepped into the Target store in Kearney, NE to be greeeting with "Merry Christmas" emblazoned across the front doors (in the same decor style at the rest of the decorations, so I knew it was part of the whole decor). Christmas music (albeit, secular) was playing in the store. The cashier wished us a "Merry Christmas." I don't know about Target as a whole, but this one was doing it right.

Comment: After every register they have merry christmas signs hung in my target. I was very surprised at this. Yes, Target did decide not to let the Salvation Army bell ringers stand in front of their stores a few years back. Personally, I don't think this is an attack against Christmas, I think it's just trying to provide a pressure-less shopping experience. I do donate at Christmas but I don't like feeling bad by having to walk by the bell ringer every time I go into a store don't have cash.

Comment: I did my stocking stuffer shopping at Target during my lunch hour. It was such a pleasant experience, and the clerk wished me a Merry Christmas when I checked out. What a boost to the rest of my day. It prompted me to ask my employer if we can wish a Merry Christmas to our customers at the end of our phone conversations, no decision yet, so I will until they tell me I can't.

However, I was sorely disapointed to recieve a "Happy Holiday" greeting from one of the cashiers. The vast majority of those shopping during December are buying Christmas gifts, not "holiday" gifts. Followup Comment: Today's (6 Dec) Target insert in the Palm Beach Post Newspaper was 43 pages. CHRISTMAS was never mentioned in any of the countless HOLIDAY sales ads/pictures. No pictures of Santa,no Merry Christmas. The word "Holiday" however was on most pages. The "Holiday" on 25 December is "Christmas". To some it is "politially incorrect to say Merry Christmas. I find that offensive."Holiday" was not born on 25 December---Jesus Christ was. Thus, Merry Christmas is appropriate not Merry "Holiday". See Target's insert in all major newspapers.

There are things that say Merry Christmas throughout the store as well as items for sale with this.

Upon entering the store, we thanked the associates for using the phrase "Merry Christmas!" rather than "Happy Holidays!" Upon returning back to TN, the same is true at our local Target. Comment: Target's catalog showed exclusively Christmas symbols and colors, like a christmas tree and others all throughout their catalog, yet decides to only call it the Holidays. If they want to call it the Holidays then they should not be so "exclusive" and should also print symbols of Kwanza and Hanukka. It's "the Holidays" right?

To those that are using this site to lower their ratings based on the bell ringers - I am not sure that is fair. It was nothing directed specifically toward Salvataion Army; they don't allow ANY organization to to solicit outside their entrance/exit doors. I know this because I sent the email to my sister-in-law who worked in Target's marketing department at the time, and she quickly dispelled the rumor for me. Comment: I noticed that Target has been given a favorable rating by some this year. I'm pleased to hear that the store is friendly within, but outside Target continues to ban the Salvation Army bell ringers. While collecting for the poor, the bell ringers have cheerfully rung out the welcome sounds of Christmas goodwill and cheer for years, and Target's decision to forbid the bells in front of their store is more than unfriendly. It is a cowardly concession to those who annually claim to be offended.
