Comment: They were the only retailer to reply to my "Merry Christmas" with a "Merry Christmas." Plus, L.L. Bean's has Christmasy merchandise, even if it's not exactly Christian. Still, it's not an insult.

Comment: I received L.L. Bean's catalog in the mail this past month. I was pleasantly surprised to see the title was "Christmas 2009". I ordered a few things from their catalog and in each email I received from them they wished me a merry christmas. I will be shopping here again!

Comment: I get LL Bean catalogs and they all include mentions of Christmas. I'm buying quite a bit from them this year!

Comment: After placing an order the customer service person wished me a Happy Holiday, with which I responded "Merry Christmas". I sensed she would have preferred to have said Merry Christmas". Since the catalogs say Happy Holidays I would assume the staff have been instructed to say that as well.

Comment: The L.L. Bean Catalog calls the items they sell Christmas favorites! I think this is great! However, they do not sell any Nativity scenes,or Bibles that talk about the virgin birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Reason for the Season! Merry Christmas!

Comment: Although L.L.Bean did call it "Christmas 2009", I didn't even see it at first glance and there was very little other mentions of Christmas inside [the catalog.] The cover mentioned (in larger print) "Holiday delivery by Dec 23". --- When it comes down to it, Land's End proudly states "Merry Christmas" on their catalog cover, and the choice between the two was obvious. L.L. Bean tried, but fell short to their competitor. I'll be skipping L.L. Bean this year, and they will need to do better next year if they want me back.

Comment: LL Bean has a "Christmas catalog" so I vote "Christmas friendly." I also believe that LLBean would be receptive to feedback from those who want more "Christmas" in the catalog....

Comment: I received an e-mail coupon from L.L.Bean entitled "Holiday Gift" I am offended by the fact that retailers omit Christmas, because they don't want to offend those who don't celebrate it, but are not concerned about offending those of us who do celebrate Christmas and spend our hard earned money this time of year.

Comment: I emailed the company to express appreciation for their Christmas catalog. I received a very cordial reply, including "Merry Christmas."

Comment: I was pleasantly surprised to see that the catalog is called "Christmas 2009". But then I flipped through the entire thing and found repeated uses of "Holiday" and almost awkward omissions of Christmas. I won't call them Christmas-offensive and do thank them for the "Christmas 2009" title.

Comment: LL Bean catalog should include Christmas gift ideas, stated so. Christmas eve/day recipes as a sidebar would be a good way to round out the catalog so that it is not just for sales. ANd instead of images of just the objects, show tham as newly opened gifts.

Comment: I would like to applaud L.L. Bean for saying Merry Christmas. I received one of their catalogs in the mail along with another retailer (Fossil) and noticed L.L. Bean proudly proclaimed "Merry Christmas" whereas the other did not and was offensive. Guess which I would rather shop at this Christmas?

Comment: I just received the CHRISTmas catalog, and I am pleasantly surprised to find the words "Christmas catalog". We are not able to spend much on Christmas this year, but I am ordering most of my Christmas presents from L.L. Bean. They have really great quality merchandise. Thank you L.L. Bean, and keep Christ in Christmas!!

Comment: I love L.L. Bean, but I have to give them a mixed rating. Christmas is prominently used in their Christmas catalog, and it is occasionally used online in descriptions of Christmas items (i.e., stockings and advent calendar). However, online you buy gifts from the "Holiday Shop" and can purchase a "Holiday wreath" ...Their latest promotional email uses the word "Holiday" 6 times, but never Christmas. I emailed them a nice email...

Followup Comment: L.L. Bean's response (part II): It is certainly not our intent to offend anyone. I have passed your comments along to the folks who manage our website and advertising for their review and consideration. I hope this information helps to alleviate some of your concerns. You are a valued customer and your opinion is very important to us. We hope you will give us the opportunity to be of service to you again in the future. Sincerely, XX I would like to change my rating to Christmas--Friendly now.

Followup Comment: Here is L.L. Bean's response: (part I) Dear Ms. XX, Thank you for contacting L.L.Bean with your concerns regarding our Christmas and holiday advertisements. We always try to strike the appropriate balance during the holidays by emphasizing the joys and celebrations of the season. The word "Christmas" is used in all of our channels of advertising - in our catalogs, on the web, television advertising and at our retail stores, though the messaging changes frequently. For example, our website and emails are different from day to day. (continued)

Comment: While searching the online site for a Christmas stocking I noticed that LLBEan does not sell Christmas stockings. They sell Holiday stockings and holiday wreaths. I did not see one word about Christmas. I will choose to shop at stores that realize Christ's birth is the reason for this Holy day! I will keep my eyes open to see if Christmas re-appears in any of their advertisements throughout the season.

Comment: Actually, the interaction was an ad from Barclay Bank, who service L.L.Bean credit cards. Their headline was "the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" and the ad promotes spending a certain dollar amount from Nov 23 to Dec 31, then also from Jan 1 to Jan 31, the "holiday season," in order to earn double coupon dollars. I just changed my rating from "negligent" to "offensive" as I do find it offensive for the bank/retailer to try to use Christmas as an excuse to get people to make large credit card purchases.

Comment: No mention of Christmas in the e-mails or on the LL Bean website. It mentions "get it under the tree", but it doesn't say what kind of tree. LL Bean, I like your products, but I can shop other places that are more Christmas friendly. Please skip the "Holiday" word and instead use "Christmas"!

Comment: It's great the LL Bean's puts out a Christmas catalog. Thank you for celebrating Christmas with me. I was disappointed to see that inside that catalog you called the evergreen wreath a Tartan Holiday Fir Wreath, you also had a Winter White Wreath and Centerpiece. They are called Christmas wreaths by everyone I know.
