Comment: On December 18,2009, I visited Borders on Lake Ave in Pasadena,California. As a teacher, I have frequently referred my students to make purchases at Borders. I am now looking for an alternative referral source for my students. Why the change? Borders was very politically correct with many "holiday" postings in the store. But the straw that broke the camel's back was there sale on "Holiday Trees." I refuse to buy "holiday trees"

Comment: "Merry Christmas," I said to the manager/cashier at the Phoenix Airport Borders Bookstore last weekend, after making a purchase. His response: a sardonic smirk, and the comment, "Well, if that is your AFFLICTION of choice ........ uhhh, I mean affiliation."
I managed to continue smiling and said, "Oh, I LOVE Jesus, and I don't mind telling him 'Happy Birthday!' The man said no more, but his contemptuous facial expression spoke volumes.

Comment: Borders' online employee resource, "Bookmark," goes out of its way to promote an anti-Christmas employee culture by going out of its way to call anything Christmas "holiday" instead. For instance, a recent "Bookmark" sets deadlines to ensure delivery by the "holiday." Borders refuses to mention "Christmas," ever in public or employee literature. ...They sell Christmas products because they're money-makers, but Christians would be well-advised to support their local Christian bookstore or online Christian store instead.

Comment: While shopping at Borders today, I noticed they were playing The Lord's Prayer and Amazing Grace. I was pleasantly surprised. Many of their books are of an offensive nature, but I did notice several Christmas items with the nativity included.

Comment: Upon leaving Borders my cashier said to me, "Happy Holidays." I promptly corrected her. She said that there was no pressure from her company to chose any particular greeting, and she really likes the term happy holidays. She said that it is the blessing of this country we live in to have such choices. I couldn't argue with her after that, what a dear.

Comment: I went specifically to find non-religious books (Dr. Seuss/Eric Carle). I saw no obvious "Christmas" words in the store, but the sales clerk enthusiastically wished me a Merry Christmas in response to my Merry Christmas.

Comment: partial reply via email: "...We serve a diverse customer base and must be prepared to meet the needs of customers who are celebrating holidays as diverse as Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Eid, Winter Solstice and the New Year..sell items that are specific to the celebrations previously mentioned... We encourage our Borders employees to use any appropriate greeting, including Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Seasons Greetings, and Happy Holidays.
It is our sincere hope that our store atmosphere represents some of the spirit of caring, giving and joy that marks this time of year."

Comment: We had a group from our church who gathered to go Christmas caroling and were invited in to a Pittsburgh PA Borders. When we arived, they told us that they were pleased that we were there to entertain thier customers, but that we could not sing any religious songs. I no longer shop Borders. I also believe that our responsability goes beyond not shopping. We should be writing individual letters to the corporate management to state that until policies change, they have lost our business.

Comment: I am slightly offended by Border's lack of incorporation of Christmas in their ad's. I am a member of the Border's Rewards Club but will not be shopping at Borders this Christmas and upcoming year unless a public outreach and apology is issued to all Christians and believers of Christmas.

Comment: I find it offensive that this store is so eager to have our money but neglects to honor the holiday. I won't shop here and as much as possible shop in Christian book stores. Borders has an agenda and it is nothing to do with Christian values.

Comment: They sure do have a lot of titles with "Christmas" in them, but they are accompanied by cursing or other inappropriate words. Absent in the store in totality is any mention of Christmas. Lots of "Christmas alternative" holiday items also. Ugh.

Comment: "Season's Readings" and having ornaments isn't enough. It needs to say "stocking stuffers" or "Christmas gifts". I want to see the word "Christmas" on the website, not just on the books. It is great how there are 4 Christmas books listed underneath the words "Season's Readings", but I'd like it more if it had the word "Christmas" in the title. Thank you.

Comment: they had "holiday" cards and many "holiday" specials. didnt see any mention of Christmas. upon checkout, they were soliciting donating a book from a pile they had sitting on the counter to give to needy children, but none of them were Christ-centered or Christmas related stories (not even secular christmas!).
